We’re Open for Business
We value open and honest communication, and it’s a two-way street. You have the opportunity and responsibility to speak up, too. Our teachers seek feedback through surveys each year to understand your thoughts.
Like anybody can, your Let's Play Music teacher may feel nervous about receiving feedback, even though she gave her all to her students. With guidance from Let’s Play Music trainers, our teachers learn to appreciate and use feedback to improve their studios. Thoughtful feedback from parents is crucial for making our programs better, so please share your insights when your teacher asks.
Let’s Be Honest
We have fun with the kids but are open and honest with parents. This blog is here to share what happens behind the scenes in the Let’s Play Music program. We’ll cover:
Our values and how they shape class format
The purpose of each activity
How you can support your child’s learning at home
The future use of each skill
If you have questions not answered here, your teacher is available to help. Please reach out if you need more information about your child’s learning.
The Good Times and…
If you need to discuss a tough topic with your teacher, it’s okay to be nervous, and she might be too. Rest assured, she’s trained to handle concerns openly and professionally. Please be honest about your concerns and give her a chance to address them.
Your teacher has a supportive network of educators nationwide, so she’s likely encountered similar issues before. Don’t worry about upsetting her—she will receive support and work through the situation with you.
Don't Let This Be You
Over the years, there have been a few students who simply disappeared from class without any communication. Sometimes, parents may even avoid calls and emails for months, only to later explain that financial difficulties were the reason for their absence. Don’t let embarrassment or silence get in the way of your child’s music experience.
If you face challenges, like financial struggles, speak with your teacher. She is here to discuss solutions and find a way to keep your child in class if possible. If not, you can still part ways on good terms. Open communication is key!
Convos With My Teacher
Here's a sample conversation to help you get started if you have a tricky subject to bring up! Perhaps there's something in class that's happening (or not happening) that could be better. Believe us, every teacher has had a few of these conversations. Being connected to the students and parents is one thing that you will love about our program.
You: Hi Ms. ____. I have been wanting to chat with you about something; do you have a few minutes now?
Teacher: Why, yes. I'm so happy you called. What's on your mind today?
You: Well, one thing I really value is _____. I really care about making sure that ______. So, one thing that I have been thinking about is __________.
Teacher: Okay. I'm glad to hear that ____ is so important to you. I really want to make this class a success for your child, and knowing exactly what you care about helps me. Now that you point it out, I can understand your perspective about ________________. I really care about making this work for both of us; is it okay with you if I take a couple days to think about this and consider what you've shared with me? I'm also going to do a little research and see if I can come up with some strategies to share with you. Can I call you back on Friday?
You: Sure. I'm glad you're willing to talk to me about this. I really feel like we are a team.
Teacher: Of course! I'm on a learning curve to becoming a fantastic teacher. I'm sure this isn't the last time I will have to learn from _______ , so I'm glad you're friendly about helping all of us figure it out.
You're My BTF
Every knows about "BFFs," or "Best Friends Forever." Well, instead of “BFF,” we hope your music teacher can become your “BTF” (Best Teacher Forever) — someone you can trust and communicate with about your child’s progress.
If you appreciate something your teacher does, let her know! Whether it's making treats, staying after class, or reviewing a skill, your feedback helps her understand how to make your experience even better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We really do value that open and honest communication!
